The cost of erectile dysfunction drugs has been rising in the past decade, and according to some estimates, it could be as high as $100 million a year.
According to the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology, Viagra, a prescription drug used to treat the impotence or erectile dysfunction in men, has been the most cost-effective medication to treat this condition since it became available in the United States in the late 1990s.
According to the, the cost of Viagra (sildenafil citrate), another prescription drug, in the U. S. in 2001 was $10.18, compared to $1.93 for Cialis (tadalafil) in the United Kingdom in 2011.
According to the, the cost of Cialis (tadalafil) in the U. in 2011 was $5.09, compared to $1.85 for Viagra.
“While we are pleased that the cost of Cialis and Viagra is rising, there are still several things we need to work on to increase the amount of money that can be saved by taking both drugs at the same time,” said David A. Schilbach, PharmD, of the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.
Schilbach said that he is working on several studies to further study the side effects of these medications and see if it could help prevent more people from taking these medications, or prevent more people from using them for other reasons.
“We are looking into some new studies to help us figure out whether a drug like Viagra might be as effective as a drug like Cialis, and if so,” Schilbach said.
The cost of Viagra was $5.07 in the U. S., and Cialis was $4.12 in the U. K., while tadalafil was $4.00 in the U.
The U. Food and Drug Administration approved Viagra in 1998 for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men only, and it has been available since then for more than 20 years.
Schilbach noted that he was aware that the cost of the drug was rising in the last decade. “If you look at the overall cost of drugs, the amount that you pay for them will be higher than in the past and higher than what you paid for Cialis or Viagra,” Schilbach said.
He added that he was aware that the cost of Cialis was rising in the last decade and that Viagra was “very expensive,” but he believes that it would be “very difficult for anyone to afford the drug.”
Schilbach said that he had previously discussed with him with the Food and Drug Administration that he could not afford Viagra. “I’m not sure if I’d be able to afford it now. I don’t know why,” he said.

The term "generic" refers to the active ingredient of a medicine or drug rather than to the advertised brand name under which the medicine is sold. It is a term referring to any drug marketed under its chemical name without advertising.
Pfizer made the originaltablet that is often referred to as the “blue pill”.The patent expired in 2013 which then allowed other pharmaceutical manufactures to make a generic version under the name of the active ingredient called Sildenafil. They are exactly the same medically and perform in the same way with the same side-effects.
As with most branded products, Viagra is sold at a higher price, therefore the generic tablets sold asare much cheaper.
Medically there is no difference between a generic medicine and the branded medicine, as they both have the same active ingredients to make them perform in the same way. They only differ in the “bulking” agents used to fill the tablet as the amount of active ingredient required, in this case Sildenafil, is very small. This makes the tablets bigger and easier to handle.
The main difference between generic andbranded named prescription medicines is cost with generics being much cheaper
Every pharmacy can choose what price they sell at, as there are no fixed prices. It will depend on what price the pharmacy can buy the drug from the wholesaler and the cost of their own overheads. All the pharmaceutical companies are inspected by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to ensure they manufacturer the drugs to the same quality standard. This means that the key ingredient that is referred to as the “active” ingredient is exactly the same in all brands.
The other inactive ingredients that make up the bulk of the tablet are called “excipients” and can vary.
For those people who are allergic to or have an intolerance to lactose, then the is ideal for you as it is lactose free. You can check the additional excipients on the patient information leaflet supplied with your tablets.
Although medically all the generic tablets are identical, they may look different as they can vary in colour, shape and size due to the varying excipients.
The patent for, owned by Pfizer, expired in July 2013, which then allowed other pharmaceutical companies to produce generic. There are a number of companies now manufacturing which include Accord, Ajanta, Dr Reddy’s, Mylan, Teva, Torrent and Zentiva.
